Visa launched PayWave contactless payment
On the footsteps (old, wearing, barely visible footsteps) of MasterCard, Visa has launched their form of contactless payment: PayWave. This will go in direct competition with their arch nemesis Mastercard and PayPass which launched sometime last year and has been quietly added into credit cards all over the US.
Through the use of RFID embedded within a key fob, you are now able to “securely” make purchases while having full control of your card details at all times of the transaction. Also, since nowadays transaction under $25 don’t require a signature this can be quite a time saving measure.
Now, as I’m always a skeptic, and it’s more fun that way for you dear reader, here are some cons that I could muster up:
- Why a fob? I have enough crap on my keychain that I don’t want some bulky, ugle, blue, feminine plasitc piece of crap on it too.
- If I lose this thing, I might as well kiss goodbye to my high credit score and file a fraud report before I get my statement.
- Which merchants will accept PayWave? Prbably not many for some time. It took PassPass a while to get into merchant store and even now only certain chains and large stores will have them.
- Why do I need an easier way to buy crap I dont need? I buy enough of it as it is.
You make the choice.
