iCache Digitally Stores your Credit Card in one Device

Are you tired of carrying multiple credit cards, debit cards, reward cards, and loyalty cards in you wallet?  Well, luckily there seems to be a solution on the horizon.  The iCache is a new innovative product that can consolidate all your traditional cards that have a magstripe.

This product was started by ex-Oracle staffer and tech entrepreneur Jonathan Ramaci. Apparently he experience this problem that we typicall all face given that the average American now possesses approximately 6 credit cards at any given time.  Essentially the iCache stores information for multiple cards by going to their website and manually entering the information.  The iCache then uploads this information to the thin (as thin as a RAZR) pocket sized product which looks like a red iPod on steroids.  There is a screen that organizes the uploaded cards by type.  The user can then select which card they would like to use and the iCache subsequently writes the card data onto the iCache card the same size as a standard credit card which then pops out for use at the point of sale.  After a single purchase the data is wiped off of the iCache and it is reinserted into the unit.

Sounds cool right? I’m still a skeptic.

Despite the fact that there is currently no other product like this on the market, there could still be hurdles for full out adoption.  First of all, we all carry a wallet and the iCache does not seem like it will fit inside a typical wallet and will be similar to exactly what they claim.  It’ll be like dragging another Motorola RAZR along.  Couple this with the fact that you need to stand in front of a cashier and fumble through an iPod like menu to load up a card of choice.  I have enough difficulty convincing people that I’m the owner of my current credit cards, not to mention what they would think now that I’m loading up cards from a bright read handheld machine.  I’m still hopeful that this idea will take off and it definitely can.  I for one will be standing in line to buy one if others adopt and blaze the “this is really a legit credit card” trail first.  Let’s keep an eye on this one and see where it goes.  Expect it to be available early 2008 according to their website: iCache.
